Some accidents dot Chattanooga area in wake of heavy rains

Accidents were reported on some roadways in the Chattanooga area today as heavy rains, accompanied by lightning and thunder, moved through the region early in the morning.

The weather conditions also led to some schools in northern Alabama with delayed openings.

In Alabama, the Associated Press reported that storms killed two people in Jefferson County and that rescuers were going house-to-house searching for people that might be trapped in their homes.

AP quoted Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian as stating that a16-year-old boy was killed in Clay and in the Oak Grove community an 82-year-old man had died.
