Power is returning slowly to Chattanooga area after Thursday storms

Crews are making progress on power outages caused by Thursday's storms in and around Chattanooga, but utility officials say it still may be Monday before everyone's electricity is restored.

EPB is reporting 654 homes and businesses without power tonight. Crews will work through the night to repair damage to approximately 235 remaining areas of the electric system. Please remind the public to stay away from downed

The North Georgia EMC had fewer than 1,000 customers without power at 5:30 p.m., officials said in a news release. Most of the outages are in Murray and Whitfield counties and the utility expects to have most of the lights on again by midnight.

Volunteer Energy Cooperative still had 6,000 customers without power at about 4 p.m. and didn't expect to get everyone's electricity back on before Sunday, spokesman Robert McCarty said in an email.
