Store manager won't be charged with killing robber

KNOXVILLE - A state prosecutor will not seek charges against a Dollar General store manager who shot and killed a fleeing robber in the back.

Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols told The Knoxville News Sentinel that he notified the police department of his decision not to press charges in the fatal shooting on Feb. 27.

Manager Anthony Smith was in the store on Asheville Highway when an armed man entered the store and demanded the store's cash. The robber forced Smith to open the store's safe.

Smith followed the man, who was later identified as Justin Pierre Jackson, and shot at him multiple times. Jackson was struck once in the back and died from blood loss. Police later said Jackson was a suspect in five other robberies.
