Sequestration could cost Hamilton County Schools $2 million

Hamilton County Schools could lose nearly $2 million set aside for the poorest schools if Congress allows the sequestration to take place, according to U.S. Department of Education projections.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has been releasing lists of state- and district-specific impacts of the cuts in an effort to put pressure on Congress to reach compromise.

The $1,778,127 reduction in federal Title I funds is only one piece of the dent the sequestration could leave on Hamilton County's education programs. The U.S. Department of Education estimates more cuts in special education funds, higher education and other federal programs as the department looks to make a combined $2.5 billion in mandatory and discretionary cuts across the country.
