Man shot on Bennett Avenue; second Chattanooga shooting today

A 20-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon near 1622 Bennett Ave., Chattanooga police said.

Witnesses told police that Spencer McPherson, 20, was sitting in a car in an alley near his house when he was shot in the back just before 5:30 p.m., according to a police news release.

His injury was not life-threatening and he was taken to a local hospital.

Police released no information on the motive or the suspect.

It was the day's second shooting.

Police said Edward Duckett, 18, was shot in his back, leg and hand during a gun battle with an unknown number of others outside his home at 1006 Tunnel Blvd. around 4 a.m. He also was taken to a hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

No information on motive or suspects was released.
