Metered parking downtown will be free July 4 in honor of the holiday, the Chattanooga Parking Authority announced Friday.

Paid parking for all street meters also will be suspended on Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

The news release noted that public and private garages and lots will be charging as normal, and other parking regulations -- such as bans on parking on yellow curbs, near fire hydrants and other rules -- are enforced at all times.
