Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant will begin offering two training programs which will permit participants to gain associate degrees.

The degrees in automation, mechatronics and in car mechatronics will be offered through VW's partnership with Chattanooga State Community College.

Jim Barrott of Chattanooga State Community College said the programs had been offered to enable students to obtain a technical diploma. Now the programs will add general education classes in science, technology, engineering, math and language arts.

The programs will continue to take three years to complete.

The mechatronics programs enable students to either work on the equipment in the VW factory or on the mechanical and electronic systems in the vehicles produced at the plant.
