Army identifies Ga.-, N.C.-based soldiers killed

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Defense Department has released the names of North Carolina and Georgia-based soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says the soldiers died Monday in Jalrez District, Afghanistan when they were attacked by small arms fire.

Twenty-eight-year-old Capt. Andrew M. Pedersen-Keel, of South Miami, Fla., was one of those killed. Pedersen-Keel was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.

Twenty-six-year-old Staff Sgt. Rex L. Schad, of Edmond, Okla., was the other victim. Schad was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart, Ga.
