DA: No charges in fatal shooting of teen in Middle Tennessee

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. - A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against a Middle Tennessee man who killed a teenager and wounded another man in a shooting in early October.

Coffee County District Attorney Mickey Layne told The Tullahoma News that the shooting was determined to be self-defense.

Nicholas Dipietrantio, who is 74, shot 17-year-old Austin Ferrell and 38-year-old George Taylor on Oct. 1.

According to Tullahoma Police reports, Dipietrantio fired the shots from inside his apartment after hearing the glass in his front door shatter.

The newspaper reports some nearby residents said on the night of the shooting that Ferrell and Taylor had gone to the residence to "borrow" a can of dog food. Dipietrantio told police he never heard a request and fired only after the glass broke.
