Goodwill plans to open charter school in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A new charter school is planned in Memphis that will target adults who dropped out of high school.

The Commercial Appeal reports Goodwill Industries is behind the publicly funded endeavor that will open in the fall of 2015 if all goes according to plan. The charter school will be called the Memphis Excel Center.

Tony Martini, president and CEO of Memphis Goodwill Inc., said many adults who dropped out want to go back to high school but feel like it's too late. He says the school will "fill the gap."

He says it will offer real high school diplomas, not GEDs.
