Exterior of the Fine Arts Center on UTC campus.An assistant U.S. attorney in the civil rights division of the Eastern District of Louisiana will present "The Tarnished Badge" on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Fine Arts Center in the Roland Hayes Auditorium, located at the corner of Vine and Palmetto streets. This event is free and open to the public.
Stephan Parker's presentation will focus on the nature and dynamics of public corruption including professional codes of conduct, temptations surrounding the public trust, investigative strategies, the legal environment and challenges in the 21st century, a news release from UTC stated.
"The study of ethics is one of the core components in an academic curriculum, often examined in a hypothetical environment. Mr. Parker will talk about real-life challenges," said Dr. Roger Thompson, UC Foundation associate professor and chief departmental adviser in the UTC Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Assistant Studies.
From 2010-12, Parker served as chief of the Civil Rights and Law Enforcement Corruption Unit for the Western District of Tennessee. He currently is assigned to the Civil Rights Division, Special Litigation Unit, based in New Orleans, La., to administer the consent decree to reform the New Orleans Police Department.
