A group in Chattanooga stood in solidarity Saturday night to demonstrate against police violence in response to the killing of Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., last week.
The event was sponsored by Concerned Citizens for Justice. More than 50 people stood at the Walnut Street Bridge, chosen for Saturday's gathering because it where white mobs lynched black men in 1893 and 1906.
Chris Williams, a black man, grew up in Ferguson and said that he feels a connection to what's going on there because he and his friends experienced discrimination while living there.
"I never drive when I go back to visit, because I know the odds are high that I will get pulled over and searched for no reason," Williams, said. "In Chattanooga I never have that same fear."
Democratic 3rd District congressional candidate Mary Headrick attended the stand and said, "It shouldn't be so easy to kill black men."
