Authorities in Polk County, Tenn., are seeking a man suspected of shooting the owner of the 64 Package Store during an attempted robbery east of Ducktown.

Detective Capt. Keith Barker said this morning that the robbery happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the store on Airport Road, just off of U.S. Highway 64.

Barker said the man fired one shot at the store owner before fleeing in a red or maroon Honda with a white front fender. The store owner was able to call 911. The suspect was unable to take anything, the detective said.

The suspect is described as a tall white man about 25 years old with a slim build and fairly short, dark hair.

The condition of the owner, who is in his mid- to late-40s, is not known. Barker said the wound was a life-threatening injury and that the man is being treated at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

Anyone with any information about the suspect or his vehicle should call the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 423-338-4540 in Benton or 423-496-3301 in Ducktown.
