A holiday party at 2523 Glass St., headquarters of the nonprofit group Glass House Collective, ended abruptly when the Glass House’s floor collapsed around 6 p.m. Monday.

“The building had quite a few people in there at one time,” said Bruce Garner, public information officer for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Everyone was able to safely escape the building except for a 9-year-old girl who fell when the floor collapsed and injured her teeth, Garner said.

Teal Thibaud, a spokeswoman for the Glass House Collective, declined to comment when reached by phone.

The reason for the floor collapse is unclear, but high occupancy could have been a factor. A building inspector has been called to check and determine what action needs to be taken.

Officials with Glass House earlier described the party as a “family friendly, progressive holiday event,” which was to begin at the collective with hot cocoa and cider before moving into Mark Making’s new studio space for dinner with Santa.

The organization is trying to revitalize historic Glass Street.
