A black male in his mid-20s died on the way to a local hospital as a result of gunshot wounds suffered around 3 p.m. Saturday at 4100 Fagan St., Chattanooga police said.

Police found Charles Jones, 23, with gunshot wounds to the wrist and lower abdomen.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Jefferson, witnesses reported hearing an altercation followed by gunshots at the corner of Fagan and East 41st streets. When police arrived, they found a single victim with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and wrist.

Police are looking for three to five males who left on foot immediately after the shooting. The only description given is that one is a stocky black male.

Multiple bullet casings were found at the scene, but at this time police are unsure whether the casings came from multiple guns. It is also unknown if the shooting was gang-related.

Further information will be released as it becomes available, Jefferson said.
