Ten linemen from Sequachee Valley Electric Co-op are among a group of 41 Tennesseans heading to South Carolina to help restore power to those affected by the powerful winter storm. Some crews are already en route and others will depart early Thursday morning.
"We are proud of these volunteers who are leaving their families to help others in need. This will be hard, dangerous work in difficult conditions," said David Callis, executive vice president and general manager of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association, said in a news release.More than 50 additional lineworkers are on standby to leave Thursday afternoon should the need arise.
Crews will be assisting Santee Electric Cooperative in Kingstree, S.C., approximately 30 miles west of Myrtle Beach.
