Bud's hosts benefit for Charlie Espy

For nearly two decades, Charlie Espy has faithfully served the customers of Bud's Sports Bar.

Now it's time for them to return the favor.

Earlier this year Espy was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his brain and lungs. To help offset expenses he and his wife are facing during treatment, Bud's is hosting a fundraiser in is honor Sunday, March 9 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

The event features an $8 brunch, live music all day and night, a silent auction and a portion of the day's sales will be donated to the family.

"We raised over $11,000 at the last benefit [for Espy] and we're hoping to do that again," said Suzie White, who is helping organize the event. "It was such a success."

Michael Yarbrough, a longtime friend of Espy, said he hopes people will come out to the fundraiser, enjoy themselves and take the opportunity to help a person in need.

"Everyone needs a little help sometimes," Yarbrough said. "You wish you could help everybody, but if you can't help everybody you can at least help the ones you love and hope they'll help someone else."
