Trial delayed for AL man in interstate shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A judge has delayed the trial of an Alabama man charged in a 2012 interstate shootout with security guards for Birmingham Mayor William Bell.

Al.com reports 26-year-old Deandre Major of Birmingham was to stand trial beginning Monday on attempted murder charges. But Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Virginia Vinson granted a request to delay the trial because prosecutors were unable to find a witness who was riding with major. The judge did not set a new date for the trial.

Major is charged in the Nov. 30, 2012, shootout with the mayor's security detail along Interstate 20/59 in downtown Birmingham. Major has pleaded not guilty in the case. His defense attorney has noted two other people were in the car with Major but were never charged with crimes.
