KNOXVILLE - A little extra padding in the seat of a car sold at auction by the city of Knoxville's Fleet Services division turned out to be a stash of heroin.
Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told the Knoxville News Sentinel that the vehicle was searched by police officers after being seized as part of a heroin pipeline investigation, but they did not find the drugs.
The newspaper reports the new owner found 70 grams of heroin worth $7,000 in the padding of a seat.
DeBusk said the vehicle was searched, but there was no sign that a drug detection dog was used. He said the agency is reviewing the incident to determine whether to change any policies.
The newspaper requested documents related to the incident. Police and the city have 10 business days to respond.
