Former CNN correspondent Dan Lothian, whose first job was in Chattanooga, is returning here for a lecture series at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

He'll deliver the first talk in the series, "The Obama administration and transparency and Dan Lothian's life story," on Monday. The series is sponsored by UTC's Department of Communication.

Lothian, now owner of Dan Lothian Media, earned a bachelor's degree from Tennessee Temple University and a master's degree from American University in Washington, D.C. His first job was as a general assignment reporter at WDEF-News 12 here.

He will return to Chattanooga for subsequent campus visits and speak to classes on Nov. 12-13, Jan. 13-14, March 17-18, and on April 7. UTC plans to host public lectures by Lothian during each of his visits, according to a news release.

Dr. Betsy Alderman, professor and head of the UTC Communication Department, said this is "a wonderful opportunity for UTC students and communication students to learn from one of the brightest stars in broadcast journalism. We are more than thrilled he will be here."

Before starting Dan Lothian Media, Lothian worked for more than a decade as a correspondent at CNN, and during his last five years at the network he was a White House correspondent.

Lothian also served as CNN's Boston bureau chief and correspondent and coordinated all news coverage from the greater Boston area.

He has extensive experience and has been recognized for his reporting on natural disasters and the Middle East. He also has traveled to more than 30 countries with President Obama.
