Man charged over remains found in Alabama

CEDAR BLUFF, Ala. -- Cherokee County, Ala., authorities have charged one man in an apparent homicide and are awaiting confirmation of the identity of the person whose body was found Sunday north of the town of Cedar Bluff.

Terry Lee McKinney, 63, of Cedar Bluff, has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the remains by a local resident, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said in a statement.

Officers recovered those remains and found more remains along County Road 82, Shaver said.

Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton sent the body to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for DNA identification. Authorities said the case remains under investigation by the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit.
