NASHVILLE -- Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson is moving back to Tennessee.
The Tennessean reports that the actor, attorney, lobbyist and reverse mortgage pitchman who has been living in McLean, Virginia, paid just over $1.5 million for a home in a Nashville gated community.
Thompson was a lawyer in his hometown of Lawrenceburg and in Nashville before heading to Washington, where he rose to prominence as an aide to then-Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker during the Watergate hearings.
Thompson worked as an actor before and since his time in the Senate from 1994 to 2003, including as an admiral in "The Hunt for Red October" and as the gruff, hard-nosed district attorney on NBC's "Law and Order."
Thompson made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
