Workers at the Hamilton County 911 Emergency Communications District donated enough food and money to provide 30,902 meals to area residents through the Chattanooga Food Bank this holiday season, the district announced Monday.

Employees donated food and money equivalent to 37,802 pounds of food, executive director John Stuermer said in a release.

District employees competed both with each other and with the Metro-Nashville Emergency Communications Center to see who could donate the most pounds of food per employee. The Nashville district raised just 3,070 pounds of food this year.

Stuermer congratulated Hamilton County employees for their win in an email.

"You guys did outstanding again this year," he wrote. "We beat our own record from last year by almost 7,000 pounds, which is awesome."
