Trial to begin for estranged husband in teacher death

MEMPHIS -- A trial is set to begin for the estranged husband of a Memphis kindergarten teacher who is charged with murder and abuse of a corpse in her death.

The Commercial Appeal reports jury selection was scheduled Monday in the trial of Chris Jones.

He is accused in the death of 33-year-old Heather Palumbo-Jones, who was reported missing in April 2013 when she didn't show up for work. Her badly burned body was found a week later in a wooded area off U.S. 64.

Police say the couple was in a custody battle for their children at the time of her death.

Opening statements in the trial are expected to begin on Tuesday.
