Two bondsmen were themselves booked into jail Tuesday after police and witnesses said the men chased a group of people with guns, fired twice at the group and failed to identify themselves as bondsmen.

Charles Key, 52, owner of Key Bonding Company, and Antonio Boston, 36, each face three charges of aggravated assault, according to their affidavits.

Witnesses told police that Key and Boston approached a vehicle that was sitting in a parking lot at H&H Grocery near Wilcox Blvd with their guns drawn and fired two shots at the vehicle - which contained three people - when the driver pulled out of the parking lot.

The driver told police that he thought he was being robbed because Key and Boston never identified themselves as bondsmen and drove away as soon as he saw the guns.

The driver said that Key and Boston followed him back to his home and then Boston pulled a gun again on the group. At that point, the driver realized that the men were bondsmen and were after one of his passengers, a woman inside the car.

Key and Boston took the woman into custody and she was booked into jail by a third bondsmen, according to police documents.

The bondsmen told police that only one shot had been fired and that the driver had been aggressive and rammed his vehicle into their truck when they approached at the grocery store. Key also said that no one had drawn their guns at the driver's home.

Their account differed from what several witnesses reported.

They were booked into the Hamilton County Jail around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and have since been released on bond.
