A man rescued two Great Danes from a house fire in Red Bank this afternoon, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.

The house at 117 Narragansette Ave. caught fire around 3:30, the release stated.

The homeowner, Chad Watkins, reported he had just arrived home to meet a roof repairman when he noticed smoke pouring out his front door, according to the release.

Watkins called 911 and ran to rescue his two Great Danes which were in the basement, the release said. The dogs were unharmed. While rescuing the dogs, he noticed a large fire surrounding the furnace, the sheriff's office said. Watkins explained he has had problems with his furnace in the past but Red Bank fire investigators will determine the actual cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported. Damages are estimated at $70,000. Watkins is insured and will be staying with family at this time.
