A Dunlap man has pleaded guilty in a 2011 Sequatchie County slaying, according to the sheriff's office.

Thomas Bryan Bettis, 38, pleaded guilty to facilitation to commit felony murder and facilitation to commit especially aggravated robbery in the death of Clifford Carden.

The 55-year-old victim's body was found Feb. 3, 2011, floating in the Sequatchie River at Pickett's Bridge off of East Valley Road.

Bettis' co-defendant, Susan Baker, was convicted by a jury in March 2014 of felony murder and especially aggravated robbery and sentenced to serve 35 years.

Prosecutors said the pair targeted Carden, taking $1,005 from his car and other items from his home. Then they burned the car and went on a $400 shopping spree at Wal-Mart with the victim's money.
