Chattanooga police on Thursday charged Johnny Clarence Carter, 27, with aggravated robbery in connection with a Wednesday shooting.

According to an arrest affidavit, Carter was one of two men who robbed Eric Reidy, John Jernigan and Kimberlyn Willis about 10:15 Wednesday night. Willis told police she, Reidy and Jernigan went to 2000 Appling St. to buy marijuana.

While there, two men robbed Jernigan at gunpoint and escorted him back to Reidy's car. Then they demanded more money and cellphones. When Reidy tried to drive off, one of the men shot him in the left arm and right leg.

Reidy, Jernigan and Willis drove to Erlanger hospital for help. Reidy, 23, was in stable condition after the shooting, police said.

While at the hospital, Reidy, Jernigan and Willis were interviewed by police. Investigators used information from patrol officers who work the area to identify Carter, who police say is a known drug dealer who stays at 2006 Appling St. Willis picked Carter out of a photo lineup.

Carter was arrested Thursday.

His criminal record here includes arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia, assault and criminal trespassing. He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail, where he was being held Friday on $200,000 bond.
