A fire in the women's clothing section of Walmart on Gunbarrel Road forced shoppers and employees to evacuate Wednesday night.

Around 7 p.m., Chattanooga firefighters responded to the fire and evacuated the entire building, said Bruce Garner, public information officer for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Captain Teri Rose, the incident commander on site, said the fire involved a circular clothing rack, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries have been reported at this time, according to Rose.

The building's sprinkler system was quickly activated, extinguishing the flames, and preventing extensive damage. Cleanup is required for the smoke and water damage, and the store is expected to remain closed for the remainder of the evening, according to Garner.
