Hays State Prison A Hays State Prison maintenance worker was killed Tuesday in an accident on the prison grounds.
The Department of Corrections confirmed that Dale Mitchell, who has worked for the prison system for 25 years, died Tuesday. But officials wouldn't say how he died.
A former officer with inside knowledge of the situation said Mitchell was killed in an accident while working on the grounds.
Mitchell's death is still under investigation.
