ATLANTA -- A project manager is vowing to make air conditioning upgrades at an Atlanta apartment building for low-income residents who say temperatures regularly soar to dangerous levels inside.
CBS 46 reports that project manager Jason Shaw told a judge that promised work at the building near downtown would begin Tuesday. His comments came at an emergency court hearing Monday in Fulton County Superior Court, where a group of residents had earlier filed a lawsuit.
Residents have pleaded with Friendship Baptist Church, which owns the building, to fix what tenants say is a broken air conditioning system.
Church officials have not returned several messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Baxter has given the church and its management company 60 days to find a solution. The deadline for that is mid-August.
