Funeral services for U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, 26, will be held Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, during a ceremony for family and close friends. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery in a public service at 4 p.m.
Smith is one of five servicemen killed during a mass shooting July 16 in Chattanooga.
A native of Paulding, Ohio, Smith was born April 16, 1989. He served with the U.S. Navy as an active duty logistics specialist on the USS Wasp in Norfolk, Va., for three years. Upon his recent re-enlistment, he was stationed at the Naval Operations Support Center in Chattanooga, where he was responsible for the training and transportation of active duty naval personnel.
Smith, his wife, Angie, and three daughters have lived in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., where they attended First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe. He was enrolled at Ashford University where he was on the Dean's List working on a degree in hospital administration.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Bank beneficiary account for Randall Smith, P.O. Box 2146, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742. Funds will be in an education trust for Randall's three daughters.
