An 18-year-old man allegedly fired a shot at another man during a fight Thursday afternoon, and then told police he would have killed the man if the man had run just "20 seconds slower."

David Stanfield Jr. told police he pulled the pistol out of his father's car and pointed it at 21-year-old Patrick Early after getting into a fight at 2905 E. 46th St. about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the affidavit.

Early immediately ran around a corner, according to the affidavit. Stanfield missed Early because the man ran away so quickly, he told police.

Stanfield also told police he was planning to shoot Early just once, because he wasn't "going for overkill," according to the affidavit.

The victim told police the fight started after Stanfield was disrespectful to a family member. Stanfield said he was upset because Early treated him poorly and refused to help him when he needed it.

Stanfield was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in while committing a crime.

He is in custody in the Hamilton County Jail on a $65,000 bond.

As police were driving Stanfield to the jail, another witness told police that Stanfield had sent her a text saying he was going to kill his family and then kill himself.

Police are still following up on that information, according to the affidavit.
