DALTON, Ga. -- A woman convicted of murder in the killing of a northwest Georgia store clerk is seeking a new trial.

The Dalton Daily Citizen reports that Skyy Mims is scheduled to be in court Friday in Whitfield County. An official with the public defender's office, which is representing Mims, declined to say why she's seeking a new trial.

Mims, an aspiring model, dancer and rapper from Detroit, is accused of stabbing Dayahbhai Kalidas Chaudhari to death in Whitfield County on March 9, 2014. Customers say the clerk was found in a pool of blood, his mouth and eyes duct-taped shut.

Mims was given a life sentence without parole.

Attorney Carla Marable, who represented Mims during the trial, argued that she had mental illness and should have a chance for parole.
