Updated: Person who fell at Signal Point Park identified as a 16-year old girl

The person who fell off the bluff of Signal Point Park has been identified as a 16-year old female, according to a release by Hamilton County Emergency Services.

At 6:45 p.m., a hiker found the teenager lying on the trail and called 911. He said she was conscious and alert at the time but had sustained injuries, the release said. Authorities said she fell 30-40 feet.

Notre Dame High School has identified the fall victim as one of its students, Lee Schemel.

Signal Mountain Fire Department responded and called for mutual aid assistance for additional rope rescue personnel. Additional fire departments were also called to the scene.

A Hamilton County EMS unit is standing by at the scene waiting to assist the patient when rescue crews get her from the woods, the release said. Fire officials report she is one mile down the trails and she will be carried out shortly.
