Police say a man is in custody after he shot at an officer Thursday night in Chattanooga.

While patrolling the 800 block of North Holtzclaw Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, an officer encountered a black Chevy Traverse, which swerved at the officer. The Traverse did not make contact, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield and fled the area. During the pursuit, police said the suspect fired a gun from his car at officers.

The suspect crashed his car on the 3200 block of New York Avenue and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries, according to the news release.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later time.
