A family member accidentally shot a 13-year-old boy in the face at a home in Harrison on Sunday while the family was posing for photos with weapons that were obtained illegally, investigators from Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said today.

The boy was shot at 6828 Buck Trail Drive around 8 p.m. Sunday and the investigation is still ongoing, sheriff's spokesman Matt Lea said in a release.

The boy was responsive and cooperating with investigators by Monday morning. He is expected to survive.

The boy is the 11th shooting victim under the age of 18 in Hamilton County or Chattanooga this year, Times Free Press records show.

Before him, the most recent shooting victim was an unidentified 14-year-old, whom somebody shot four times on Aug. 23 during a drive-by in the 3100 block of 7th Ave. The shooter hit the victim in the chest, thigh and arm. The injuries were not life-threatening, investigators said at the time.

Of all the juvenile victims, according to Times Free Press records, one was killed. Kentrell Provens, 16, was shot in the chest while walking down Germantown Road on April 12.
