Georgia firefighter arrested, charged in domestic violence case

The Chatsworth Police Department asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation of Chatsworth firefighter Timothy Benson concerning an aggravated assault/family violence act he committed on Sunday.

GBI says the Chatsworth Police Department and Murray County Sheriff's Office responded to the Benson residence after a call to Murray County 911 by the victim and her child about shots being fired and domestic abuse by Benson.

Officers arrived on scene and were able to remove Benson from the residence and arrest him. Benson's family has escaped the residence and gone to a neighbor's to call 911.

Benson faces multiple charges and is currently being housed at the Murray County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
