Calhoun police arrest man for allegedly molesting 12-year-old girl

A Calhoun man accused of sexually molesting a teenage girl has been arrested, Calhoun Police Chief Garry Moss said in a news release.

Detectives began investigating Santiago Idelfoneso Sontay Poncio, 22, after it was alleged he had sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl. Detectives discovered evidence linking Poncio to the assault and began a multi-county search to locate him.

Poncio has been charged with one count of felony aggravated child molestation, one count of felony child molestation, one count of felony sodomy, one count of felony incest and one count of misdemeanor cruelty to children.

"Due to the nature of this crime we had enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Office in locating Poncio. Poncio will remain in the Gordon County Jail pending bond proceedings, and will subsequently be taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement," said Lt. Tony Pyle.
