A senior at Signal Mountain Middle/High School is believed to have made a "hit list," which school officials learned about last night.

Signal Mountain Middle/High Principal Robin Copp sent an email to parents last night around 8 p.m. notifying them about the threat and that it is being handled.

"I have taken steps to ensure that the identified student will not be at school until an investigation has been completed to determine if the threat was credible," Copp said in the email. "It is my firm belief that everyone will be safe at school tomorrow and that we will have school as usual."

Signal Mountain Police Chief Mike Williams said Copp followed the same protocol as last time when the school received a shooting threat the end of February.

Williams said Copp notified him last night about the potential threat, and that he met with her at the school this morning about the situation.

"This threat is more of a he said she said rumor from the kids," Williams said.

Students at the school are currently taking the ACT, and Williams said some kids will be interviewed regarding the potential threat as soon as they finish taking the test.

Williams said at this point the senior boy who is believed to have made the "hit list" is not facing and disciplinary action and is on a college visit and not at school.

"Neither we or the school have sat him down and talked with him," Williams said.
