A man who was reportedly shot and stabbed after an incident early Tuesday morning at 9126 Westminster Circle is now being treated at a local hospital for his injuries, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were originally dispatched to the scene at 3:20 a.m. to investigate a domestic assault, but the man who was identified as the suspect, Joseph Perkins, 36, had already left the scene.

According to a press release, while deputies were obtaining arrest warrants for Perkins, they were sent back to the home at 5:45 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting.

When they arrived, the resident told deputies that Perkins had returned and attacked her, but he was stabbed and shot during the fight.

Perkins again fled the scene prior to the arrival of the deputies, but later emerged from a nearby wooded area and lay in the street.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries which were considered non-life-threatening.

Initial reports indicate the incident was not gang related.
