Hamilton County schools newly appointed Interim Superintendent Kirk Kelly made his first of several new appointments today, naming Jill Levine the district's chief academic officer.

Levine is currently the principal at Normal Park Museum Magnet and was interviewed last week for the position of interim superintendent.

Kelly created the position of chief academic officer, and said it is an associate superintendent level position. In the role Levine will oversee curriculum and instruction as well as school operations.

"Ms. Levine brings more than 24 years of experience in public education, and has a proven track record of leadership in building teams and transforming schools," Kelly said in a statement. "I am confident that she will be an asset as we work to ensure that all students in Hamilton County have access to an outstanding education."

Levine sent an email to her staff at Normal Park this morning, telling them that she will begin the new position May 9, and two other staff members will serve in her place for the remainder of the school year.

"I am honored and excited to join Dr. Kelly's team and to be part of the change that our system needs and deserves," said Levine in a statement. "I believe in the people in our district, and I know the best is yet to come for our students and this community."
