A 22-month-old baby was shot in the leg in Alton Park on Wednesday in a drive-by attack that police say is linked to a rash of violence this week.

The boy was hit while on the porch of his home in the 200 block of Water Street around 10 p.m., according to police. He will survive.

A 24-year-old man, Marquise Jackson, was shot and killed at the same spot on Sunday, and police Chief Fred Fletcher said the violence is part of an ongoing fight between two rival gangs.

He also linked a triple shooting on Sunday and a triple shooting on Wednesday to the same gang fight.

Fletcher said several gang members were sitting on a porch in Alton Park and celebrating the recent release of one gang member from jail when a vehicle drove by and someone opened fire. Investigators believe the shooter was from a rival gang.

He said there were multiple people in the vehicle, described as a four-door red sedan. He said that people know who pulled the trigger and asked those people to talk to police.

"Listen to me," he said. "These cowards shot a baby."
