State Sen. Mark Green, R-Clarksville, will be the guest speaker at Thursday's meeting of the Chattanooga Tea Party.

Green is vice chairman of the Commerce Committee in the Tennessee Senate and is "being encouraged to run" for governor in 2018, according to a news release from Chattanooga Tea Party President Mark West.

During service as a U.S. Army flight surgeon, Green interviewed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on the night of his capture and was subsequently chosen as the Army Aviation Association Flight Surgeon of the year, the release stated.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at The Century Club Banquet Hall, 3221 Harrison Pike. Please bring a nonperishable canned food item for the local Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
