Alabama man charged in shooting

A Boaz, Ala., man has been charged in the Friday non-fatal shooting of another man from the same town in an incident that happened in the DeKalb County, Ala., community of Aroney.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a statement issued Tuesday morning that Boaz resident Max William Pope, 47, was charged with shooting 55-year-old James Harold Burns at a location on County Road 386.

Harris said Pope shot Burns in the leg. Authorities did not describe the severity of the wound.

Pope is charged with first-degree assault with more charges pending, Harris said. He is being held at the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting bond.
