Apartment complex fire displaces five families in Cleveland, Tenn.

A fire tonight in a single-story apartment complex at 563 Central Ave. in Cleveland, Tenn., left five families homeless, a news release states.

Evie West, public information officer with the Cleveland Police Department, said residents called the 911 Communications Center at 7:43 p.m. about a fire in one of the units. West said there were reports of entrapment.

The Cleveland Fire Department responded, safely evacuating five families from the remaining five apartments. The fire was found to have started in a vacant apartment, and there was heavy smoke throughout the complex.

Arson Investigator Ben Atchley is leading the probe, the release states.
