Big Creek Utility District manager Allen Joslyn said Friday that recent rains have filled the utility's reservoir in Altamont, Tenn., enough that customers can go back to using water as usual.

"All the water restrictions are lifted," Joslyn said on Friday. "We're not completely full yet but we are on the rise."

Big Creek customers were issued a conservation notice in September as the lingering drought burned away water supplies in Grundy County and elsewhere around the region.

Mandatory restrictions went into place on Nov. 1.

Joslyn said this year's restrictions were in place at least as long as they were during the drought of 2007.

"This year was very unusual," he said.

But plentiful rain in recent days raised reservoir levels closer to normal levels, giving residents a break as the year nears its end.

Big Creek Utility District serves about 3,100 customers in northern Grundy County and the towns of Altamont, Gruetli-Laager, Coalmont and Beersheba Springs. Big Creek also supplies the Cagle-Fredonia Utility District in Sequatchie County and Griffith Creek Utility District near the Marion-Grundy county line.
