Police say 2 men fatally shot in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Metro Nashville Police say they are investigating after two men were fatally shot on the city's east side.

Police said in a statement that 34-year-old Donnie McFarland and 30-year-old Mahri Hawkins were killed Tuesday afternoon after an apparent exchange of gunfire as a white Kia Optima drove by a home the men were visiting.

The statement says both men were armed with handguns and were struck multiple times. McFarland died at the scene and Hawkins died after being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police say the suspect vehicle was recovered shortly after the shooting and detectives are pursing strong leads in the case.
