TBI steps in to investigate after missing Athens man found dead

Authorities are investigating after a missing Athens, Tenn., man was found dead in Monroe County.

Charles Ray Taylor, 46, was found by a property owner Monday in a wooded area off of Griffith Branch Road in Madisonville, according to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Leslie Earhart.

Taylor was reported missing Dec. 19.

The TBI, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and 10th District Attorney General Steve Crump's office are investigating the death as a homicide.
