A juvenile male has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old friend early Friday afternoon.

The East Ridge Police Department responded to the 4200 block of Bennett Road at 12:38 p.m. on a call about a juvenile who had been shot in the head.

Responders located the victim in a bedroom of the home with a single gunshot wound. He was stabilized and transported to Erlanger hospital, according to police Capt. Tim Mullinax. The victim's condition and the extent of his injuries has not been released.

Neighbors said they didn't know details about what happened, but did say they came out of their homes to see emergency vehicles lining the road.

One man, who would not give his name, said, "It looked like every cop in East Ridge was here."

"It's the way this new generation is," he said. "Nowadays, you see more and more young people involved in violence, and they're children, basically."
